Rum & Raisin Ice Cream Idli | Innovative Idli for kids | Instant Bread Idli Recipe


Hey guys, how about going crazy and making some Ice Cream Idlies instead of the same old boring idlies. Please try this recipe and I would love to have your comments. All you need to do is heat some oil for frying the idlis. Take two slices of bread. Brown or white. Brown is more healthy. Take whichever ice cream is lying in your refrigerator. Place a scoop of ice cream in the centre of the bread slice and place the other slice on top. With the help of a cup as shown in the video, press the cup into the bread and remove the extra bread from the sides. And there you have a proper idli shape.

By now the oil must be hot. In medium oil gently drop the idli. When one side is crisp, flip it over and when it is crisp on both sides, transfer it to a tissue lined plate. Continue the same process for other idlies. You can make a batch of 3-4 idlis at a time and refrigerate them before frying because if you keep them out, ice cream can melt and you won't be able to fry them.

  • 6 slices of bread

  • 3 scoops of any ice cream. I had rum & raisin ice cream

  • Oil for deep frying


  1. Heat enough oil to deep fry the idlies

  2. Place 1 scoop of ice cream in the centre of a bread slice

  3. Place another slice of bread on top

  4. Place a tea cup upside down in the centre of the bread, press and twist the cup a bit so that you can remove the extra edges of the bread pieces out easily

  5. Make 2-3 batches of idlies and refrigerate them until the oil is hot. (If you keep them out, the ice cream can melt and you won't be able to fry them).

  6. Over medium flame, fry the idli until crisp on both sides by flipping it over when one side is crisp

  7. Transfer the idli to a tissue lined plate

  8. Continue the same process for other idlies

  9. Make these idlies when the kids are around so that they can enjoy hot and cold idlies instantly.
