Kokum is very popular in South & Maharashtra and it is mostly used in fish curries, vegetables, etc. as a souring agent instead of tamarind.
People love kokum sherbet especially during summer as it is very cooling and gives instant energy. As kokum is available throughout the year in dried form, you can reap the benefits of this chutney which is rich in antioxidant, good for weight loss and prevents acidity and constipation.
All you need to do is soak a handful of kokums for 5-10 minutes, depending upon how dry and hard it is, and grind it along with some coconut, red chilli powder, salt, ginger, garlic, onion and dates to replace sugar or jaggery. This chutney is tangy, sweet, spicy and goes well with anything.
